The cat sits square in the middle of the panel, front paws together, tail curled around to one side. It is entirely black apart from two things: wide amber eyes, and a round red bell hanging from a thin red cord at its throat. The fur is worked in fine strokes, longest at the chest and along the flanks. Behind it is a wall of ornament silver grey, with a shallow arch and faint scrolls cut into it, and heavy gold flourishes
